An ideal way to start your tour of the Islands is by visiting the newly updated Malta Experience at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, an excellent audio visual programme covering the history of Malta through the Ages.
If someone is interested in exploring Valetta there are many museums and historical sights to visit. A number of those include the Upper Barrakka Gardens, the National Museum of Archeology, the fine Arts Museum, the National War Museum, St. Johns Co-Cathedral, the place of the Grand Masters, the Armoury and the Manoel Theatre.
Mdina on the other hand is the old capital of Malta, a typical medieval town, which hosts the Museum of Natural History and the Cathedral.
With some of the temples predating the Pyramids, these sites are certainly worth visiting.
One can view the Maltese Islands and historical harbors from the sea by taking one or more of the popular sightseeing cruises.
Swimming, scuba diving and snorkelling are possible all-year-round. On Malta, the best dive sites are located around the northern part, the many caves and steep drop-offs. The most popular beach area is also along the north coast and the best beaches are at Paradise Bay, Golden Bay, Mellieha Bay, Armier Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha Bay. On Gozo island, one of the most spectacular sites is Dwejra Point, which features a 35m (115ft) tunnel.
Windsurfing is very popular, especially in Mellieha Bay, St Paul’s Bay and Bahar Ic-Caghaq. An 18 Hole course is available at the Marsa Sports & Country Club. Clubs and trolleys can be hired and short term membership is also offered |
